In 1966, New Orleans was awarded with its own NFL franchise, the New Orleans Saints. During the team’s first twelve years, the Saints suffered massive losses. Slowly, the New Orleans Saints began to turn things around when they reached an 8-8 record in 1979 and appeared in their first-ever playoffs in 1987 under coach Jim Mora. The best years of the New Orleans Saints was from 1987 to 1992 under Mora, who led the team to the playoffs four times and produced winning records during non-playoff seasons.

In 2000, the Saints won their first playoff win against the St. Louis Rams, which has just won a Super Bowl title the year before. Quarterback Aaron Brooks stepped up his game and amassed over 3,000 yards passing within 4 years, giving his team the boost they needed. However, just when the New Orleans Saints was becoming an NFL contender, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, causing immense destruction in the region and forcing the team to vacate the Louisiana Superdome that they called home. However, this didn’t stop the Saints from winning an NFC South title a year later, earning the team an ESPY Award for “Best Moment in Sports” when they beat the Eagles 27-24.

Last season, the New Orleans Saints ended the 2007 season with a 7-9 record. Since the Superdome was re-built in 2006, it had sold out every New Orleans Saints tickets for two consecutive years.
